Teaching and learning

UTS higher education programs, in a range of disciplines, are meeting the need for new skills and knowledge to address complex sustainability challenges.

Sustainability and Business

UTS has some of the most popular and successful undergraduate and postgraduate business programs in Australia. Environmental sustainability has long been recognised as an issue that will increasingly drive innovation in business and corporate governance. Now at UTS, core environmental sustainability subjects can be found in our undergraduate business, MBA and Executive MBA programs.

Engineering

UTS Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate programs have responded to the challenges of environmental sustainability for more than a decade. Many UTS engineers are now leaders in sustainability in established and emergent fields, including urban and environmental design and green buildings. Engineering researchers are contributing to technology innovation in areas including autonomous systems, water and built infrastructure and health technologies. Aspiring researchers choosing a sustainability focus in any area of infrastructure, energy and environmental policy and planning, are highly sought by industry, government and non-government organisations. Visit the Engineering site for more information.

Design, Architecture and Building

Design is a key tool in reducing adverse environmental impact in buildings and products. Eighty per cent of the environmental impact of the world's structures and manufactured goods is determined at the design stage. Issues such as how much energy a new product or building will consume during use, the materials required for construction, and opportunities for recycling at end of life are essential elements in designing a sustainable built environment. These and other environmental concerns are incorporated into the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building undergraduate and post graduate courses. Course information can be found at: http://www.dab.uts.edu.au/courses/index.html.

Science

Understanding the impact of humans on the environment has long been the province of science and has helped to alert us to the urgency for action in minimising our ecological footprint. At UTS undergraduate and postgraduate environmental science study and research is available in a range of programs.

Institute for Sustainable Futures

The UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures offers postgraduate study that addresses complex societal problems and the challenges of creating change that will lead to a sustainable and desirable future. ISF offers a three-year full-time doctoral program in sustainable futures and a two-year full-time masters by research program in sustainable futures.
