Mission and values
At UTS we recognise that each and every one of us impacts, individually and collectively, upon the environment. By respecting and appreciating individual contributions as we work together to green our campus, and by incorporating sustainability principles and practices into our learning, teaching and research programs, we can move towards environmental sustainability.
Responsibility
As individuals and as a University we are responsible for our actions and accountable for the impact we have on the environment.
Leadership
We are champions of sustainability - striving to live in ways that enhance, not compromise, the future wellbeing of people and the environment.
Adaptability & Continuity
We are committed to being adaptive and creative in managing environmental sustainability and will foster a culture of continual improvement.
Inspiration
We will take the lead, inspiring others to embrace environmental sustainability.
Collaboration
We will work together with our university and industry partners - here and abroad - to further research in sustainability and employ research learnings on campus.
Transparency
We will work to achieve practical emission targets, employ appropriate measurement techniques, and assess and report our performance openly and transparently.
Our Recent Commitment
As part of our commitment to sustainability, UTS has signed in January 2008-as a member of the Australian Technology Network (ATN) (opens an external site) - a Declaration of Commitment to Local, National and Global Sustainability (PDF, 512kb, 2 pages). This declaration highlights the ATN's principles of sustainability and presents another step towards a sustainable future. The ATN is now putting strategies and setting targets to reduce carbon emissions and to improve energy efficiency.
